Using the Command Palette in Cargo

Press Cmd+K (Ctrl+K on Windows) to jump to any page, kit, or collection, and to download and send assets by name without leaving the keyboard.

Opening the Command Palette

Press ⌘ + K on Mac or Ctrl + K on Windows, from anywhere in Cargo. Press the same keys again, or Esc, to close it.

There's no button for the palette. It is also listed in the keyboard shortcuts overlay, which you open by pressing ?.

The bar along the bottom of the palette shows these keys and names what Enter will do for the highlighted row, such as Open, Download, or Send.

While the palette is open, Cargo's other shortcuts are paused, so Esc closes the palette instead of acting on the page behind it.

Jumping to a page, kit, or collection

Before you type, the palette lists the same places as the sidebar, in the same order:

  • Go to: Discover, My Downloads, Collections, Settings

  • Kits: Model Kits, Material Kits, Lighting Kits, Texture Kits

  • Browse: Models, Materials, HDRIs, Textures

  • Tools: Plugins, Scripts

Start typing to narrow the list. More rows join as you type:

  • Kits by name: every kit, labeled by brand and type, such as KitBash3D Model Kit or Greyscalegorilla Lighting Kit. Kits appear once you've typed two characters.

  • Collections: your own collections.

  • Browse by Asset Type: the individual asset types inside Models, Materials, HDRIs, and Textures.

  • Pages: My Downloads, filtered to Models, Materials, HDRIs, or Textures.

  • Settings: each settings page.

  • App: Toggle sidebar, Keyboard shortcuts, and switching between All Libraries, KitBash3D, and Greyscalegorilla.

  • Help: Documentation, Changelog, Send feedback, and Report bug.

Highlight a row and press Enter to go there.

Downloading and sending an asset

Type at least two characters of an asset's name. Matching models, materials, HDRIs, and textures appear in the Assets group at the top of the list, each labeled with its type and the kit it comes from.

  1. Type the asset's name.

  2. Use ↑ / ↓ to highlight it.

  3. Press Enter to download it. The palette stays open while it downloads.

  4. When the download finishes, press Enter again to send it to your 3D software. The palette closes.

If the asset is already downloaded, the first Enter sends it.

The icon at the right edge of each asset row tells you what Enter will do:

Nothing, so a stray key press can't interrupt the download. To stop it, open the actions list with Tab and choose Cancel download.

Cargo is still checking your access

Nothing yet. The icon appears within a moment.

Some HDRIs and textures copy a file path instead. When your 3D software can't take a particular HDRI or texture directly, Enter copies its file path, the same as that asset's card in the grid. The bottom bar shows Copy path when this applies.

No 3D software connected yet? Cargo asks you to connect your 3D software before it downloads or sends. Substance materials are the exception: they download without a connection.

More actions for an asset

Highlight an asset and press Tab, or → when the cursor is at the end of what you've typed. The list swaps for that asset's actions:

  • View details: opens the asset in Cargo.

  • Go to kit name: opens the kit the asset comes from.

  • Show similar: finds assets similar to this one.

  • Cancel download: while the asset is downloading.

  • Copy path: for downloaded HDRIs and textures.

  • Open in Substance: for downloaded Substance materials.

Type to filter the actions. Press Esc, ←, or Backspace in an empty field to go back to the list.

Searching the whole library

Once you've typed anything, a Search group appears below any matching assets, with a row for each search scope, such as Search Models for “your text”.

  • The first row searches the page you're on and keeps that page's filters.

  • The other rows search All Assets, Models, Materials, HDRIs, or Textures from scratch.

Pressing Enter on a Search row opens the full results page.

The palette finds assets by name. When you're describing what you want rather than naming it, use a Search row. It runs the same search as the search bar.

If something isn't working

  • ⌘ + K / Ctrl + K doesn’t open the palette. Another dialog is probably open. Press Esc to close it, then try again. The palette only works while Cargo is the active window.

  • An asset you expected doesn’t appear. The palette shows the top eight matches in each group, so type more of the name, or use a Search row to see everything. Newly released assets can take up to a day to appear in the palette. Until then, find them with the search bar.

  • Enter does nothing on an asset. It is either still downloading or Cargo is still checking your access. Check the icon at the right of the row.

  • You’d like a different shortcut. The palette shortcut can't be changed.
